They’re invisible companies that we know little of and they produce unfathomable circuit boards and odd looking Electronic Components. Without their work the new sensor gaming platforms such as the Wii, the Xbox and kinect wouldn’t be so compelling.
The rise of the new sensor games, since their inception around four years ago, has transformed the fortunes of companies such as Tabuchi Electric in Osaka, Japan. Mitsumi Electric, Hosiden and Taiwanese company Hon Hai are other Electric Component producers who have had their fortunes turned completely around by Sony and their like. These companies now report profits up by something like nearly 500% … not to be sneezed at.
The great thing about Wii in particular is that it opens up the world of “Gaming” to the world and his Granny. Anyone can wave their hands around in the air and laugh at what’s happening on the TV screen. The nub of the Wii for example is the “motion sensor” capability that allows it to interact with objects on the TV screen. The console recognises gestures and pointing via its “Accelerometre” and “optical sensor”. In addition to the basic abilities, the Wii has a large package of “extras” such as the “Zapper” or the “wheel” which can add greater enjoyment in the playing of various other new games.
With the new Wii U on its way to world domination, even at a higher cost than we’d like, it will be interesting to see how the xbox and kinect will fight back.
